Sahara supremo Subrata Roy arrested

Lucknow, Feb 28: In a turn of events in the

case,

surrendered before the Lucknow police on Friday. His counsel Ram Jethmalani has said that his client has surrendered and is likely to remain in police custody till March 4.

Jethmalani had earlier pleaded that Roy be given an exemption from appearing personally till March 3, given the health conditions of his mother, and that he is ready to make payments as per the court directions.

Despite offering unconditional apology, the Supreme Court did not seem to have considered his appeal. Many say he had no other option but to apologise since he felt cornered and imminent arrest.

The court was also appealed on the basis of its humane side when Roy expressed his wish to be by the side of his ailing mother in her last moments.

An arrest warrant was issued yesterday for his failure to appear before the Supreme Court in relation to a contempt case for not refunding the money of investors amounting to Rs 20,000 crores by two of his companies.

Meanwhile, he will be taken to the CJM court. The Supreme Court is said to have declined his plea for house arrest
