Submit info on industries operating diesel gensets: NGT to Delhi Govt

New Delhi, Dec 8: Noting that diesel generator sets were another source of air pollution, National Green Tribunal has directed the Delhi government to submit information on industries and commercial places which were operating on this source of power.

A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar said that emissions from diesel generator sets were one of the major contributors of air pollution in Delhi.

"We direct the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, Department of Industry NCT Delhi to file a joint report as to how many industries and commercial places are operating on generator sets as a primary or an alternative source of energy...

"Whether such generator sets are emitting within the prescribed limit and have been designed as per specific prescribed standards or not," the bench said while directing the city government to submit a report within two weeks.

The green panel also asked the authorities concerned and the Delhi government to submit a report as to what steps they have taken for compliance of the directions issued by the tribunal in relation to the construction activity and dust, emission from burning of various kind of waste within one week.

"It shall also be reported to the tribunal as to identification of zones where the cars, which are intended to be sold outside NCR Delhi, can be permitted and no Oojection certificate (NOC) in that behalf can be issued.

"We direct that NOC for sale of cars outside NCT Delhi can be issued in relation to the places where the air quality is within the prescribed parameters and provide for wider spaces for dilution of air pollution,"it said.

The tribunal's direction came during hearing of a petition by Vardhaman Kaushik who had contended that "the level of particulates in Delhi is rising manifold".
