In Jharkhand, students and teachers from 35,000 government schools observed a moment of silence to honour former Chief Minister Shibu Soren. Soren passed away on August 4 in a Delhi hospital. Around 32 lakh students and educators remembered his contributions to society and tribal rights, offering heartfelt tributes to the veteran leader.

The tribute extended beyond students and teachers to include 3,000 school management committee members and non-teaching staff. Umashankar Singh, the state project director of the Jharkhand Education Project Council (JEPC), confirmed this widespread participation. He noted that floral tributes were offered, and a minute's silence was observed in Soren's memory.

During the assembly, teachers shared stories from Soren's life, highlighting his dedication to social reform. These narratives aimed to inspire students with values of service, commitment, and justice. An official statement mentioned that his resilience encouraged students to adopt these principles in their lives.

State Mourning and Assembly Adjournment

Following Soren's death due to kidney-related issues, the Jharkhand government declared a three-day state mourning from August 4 to August 6. This period of mourning reflected the deep respect held for Soren's legacy in the state.

The monsoon session of the Jharkhand assembly, which commenced on August 1, was adjourned sine die after his passing was announced. This decision underscored the significant impact of Soren's contributions on the state's political landscape.

Soren co-founded the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and was a prominent figure in advocating for tribal rights. His efforts have left a lasting impact on Jharkhand's social and political fabric. The tributes paid by students and teachers reflect his enduring influence on future generations.
