Students sacrifice their lives to save friend from drowning

Bankura (WB), May 19: Four engineering students drowned on Sunday, while taking a bath in a water barrage here on Sunday. 11 students from B.C Roy Engineering College went to the Durgapur Water Barrage.

Three of them, identified as Aditya Roy, Chandrajit Kumar and Nitish Kumar,drowned while one of their friends Shubham Pankaj fell into the water and did not know how to swim.

An eyewitness to the incident, Dibakananda Jha, said,"Total 11 people were there. We had come here around 11:30am (0600 GMT). One or two people went inside the water. A few were standing outside. Only one boy was drowning, to save him, many jumped inside the water. Only one came out and there is no idea about the remaining three."

Fishermen retrieved their bodies from the barrage that were sent to the Durgapur Bidhannagar Hospital and Bankura Medical College.
