Student Kills Classmate In Greater Noida, Dies By Suicide Later

In a shocking development, a third-year student of Shiv Nadar University in Greater Noida allegedly shot dead a woman classmate and killed himself. The incident occurred on Thursday.

Both were studying third-year of BA Sociology. They are identified as Anuj Singh and Sneha Chaurasia.

"Around 1.30pm on Thursday, the administrative officials of Shiv Nadar University alerted the police that a woman student was shot dead by her classmate outside the dining hall on the university campus. The woman student, identified as Sneha Chaurasia, who hailed from Kanpur, was immediately rushed to Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida where she was declared brought dead," Hindustan Times quoted SM Khan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Greater Noida, as saying.

The cops have recovered a countrymade pistol.

What Is The Motive?

The early investigation has revealed that they were in a relationship and it had strained of late, Deputy Commissioner told the daily. The incident was captured on CCTV.

Going by the visuals, they were seen hugging and he tried to give something to her. As she rejected it, he shot her in the abdomen.

"The hall was locked but had glass doors. Both students met right outside around 1 pm. The girls' and boys' hostels are located on either side of the hall. In the CCTV footage, the students could be seen hugging and exchanging words. The male student had brought along something to give to the woman, presumably a gift. She could be seen refusing the parcel, following which she was shot in the abdomen by the male student. She tried to fight the man on being shot but he shot her again and she collapsed. The man was then seen running towards the boys' hostel," the investigator told Hindustan Times.

However, there are no eyewitnesses to the incident as the university is shut for the summer vacation.

The spokesperson from the university has expressed his sadness over the incident and claimed that they are fully cooperating with the investigation.

His Video Message

Before taking the extreme step, he had allegedly recorded a video where he spoke about his troubles and about their relationship. "Sneha came into my life and changed it completely," The Times of India quoted him as saying.

He said that he helped her overcome her difficult phase, but their relationship strained last year. "She went home for New Year and told me we would start afresh when she comes back. However, when she returned, she told me she wanted a break. I asked her for how long. She said 'indefinitely'," he stated,

Their relationship deteriorated further even as he battled cancer.

"If I don't get my surgery, then at the maximum, I have two years. I'm broken, shattered. Call me selfish, monster, coward. I'm OK with being called anything but I'm sorry for my actions." he said in the clip. He also apologised to his parents for "not being a good son".
