Student commits suicide in Kota

Kota, Aug 11: A 17-year-old student allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday by setting himself on fire and jumping off the hostel building at Mahaveernagar III here, police said.

The victim, Yogesh Johare, a resident of Chindwara district of Madhya Pradesh allegedly poured kerosene, set himself on fire and jumped off the 3rd floor of his hostel building, Assistant Sub-Inspector Ramesh Chandra Bhargava said.

According to the students, they saw smoke billowing from a fire in Johare's room after he returned from his IIT coaching at 12 noon.

They then noticed Yogesh engulfed in flames and jumping off the hostel building, ASI Bhargava said, adding that the boy died on the spot. The postmortem is likely to be conducted tomorrow after the parents of the deceased arrive.

Police are investigating his mobile phone details. A case has been registered under section 174 of the CrPc and no suicide note has been seized from the deceased, they added.
