Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian Promises Stringent Action Following Deaths of Two Children in Chennai
Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian announced that strict measures would be enforced if it is discovered that banned chemicals were used in rat extermination, resulting in the deaths of two children in an apartment. The tragic incident occurred on November 14, when the children, aged six and one, reportedly inhaled rodenticide.

Their parents also inhaled the toxic substance and are currently receiving medical care. The incident happened after a pest control worker applied chemical powder in their home on November 13 to address a rat problem. Giridharan, a banker living with his family in Kundrathur, turned on the air-conditioner before going to bed.
Investigation into Chemical Use
The next morning, the family was rushed to hospitals due to breathing difficulties. Sadly, Giridharan's daughter and son did not survive. Both Giridharan and his wife Pavithra are being treated at a private hospital. Officials are investigating whether any banned chemicals were used inside the apartment.
If any violations are confirmed, stringent action will be taken, according to the Health Minister. Meanwhile, authorities have inspected and sealed the pest control company's premises for allegedly breaking regulations. The hospital treating Giridharan and his wife reported that they are stable and no longer in critical condition.
Health Minister's Assurance
Currently, the couple remains under observation in the ICU. The Health Minister assured reporters that thorough investigations are underway to determine if prohibited substances were involved. This tragic event has raised concerns about pest control practices and chemical safety standards.
Authorities are committed to ensuring such incidents do not recur by enforcing strict compliance with safety regulations. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to pest control services.
