'Strict action against those involved in cattle slaughter'
Lucknow, Feb 24: Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday said the cattle population in the state is not decreasing and strict action was being initiated against those involved in its slaughter.
"The cattle population is not decreasing in the state. In 2007 census of cattle, there number was 190.97 lakh which has increased to 205.66 lakh in 2012," Animal Husbandary Minister Raj Kishore Singh said in Vidhan Sabha.

He said the government was serious in dealing with those involved in illegal slaughter of cow and other cattle.
"The government has registered 3,655 FIRs against those involved in illegal slaugtering in 2012 while 5,012 and 4,400 FIRs have been filed in 2013 and 2014 respectively in this connection," Singh said.
The matter was raised during Question Hour by BJP member Satish Mahana, who wanted to know the status of decreasing number of cattles in the state due to illegal slaughtering.
