Stone Pelting During Eid Milad In Shivamogga, Restrictions Imposed

In the wake of the stone-pelting incident, officials have enacted restrictive commands in certain areas of the city pursuant to Section 144 of the IPC.

An incident involving stone pelting took place near Shantinagar in the Ragigudda area of the city. The Rapid Action Force (RAF) quickly arrived on the scene and managed to disperse the crowd. The police had to do a lathi charge to control the situation.

The police said they successfully rescued seven individuals trapped amidst the clashes between the stone throwers and the security officers.

The dispute began when the Muslim community members questioned the authorities for removing the offensive text on a cutout of Tippu Sultan.

SP Mithun Kumar conducted discussions with community leaders and was convinced with them on the offensive content displayed on the cutout of Tipu Sultan.

The police department has maintained strict vigilance in the city of Shivamogga, which is prone to communal tensions, for the past 15 days due to the occurrence of the Ganesh festival and Eid Milad.

A minimum of 12 squads from the District Armed Reserve (DAR), in addition to two groups each from the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), along with 2,500 officers, are deployed throughout the city to prevent any unfortunate incidents.

The homicide of Bajrang Dal member, Harsha, that occurred in Shivamogga city in February 2022 drew nationwide attention. Additionally, the city experienced multiple stabbings related to the display of banners and posters of BJP-associated liberation activist Veer Savarkar.
