10 killed in stampede in Chitrakoot temple, MP

), Aug 25: At least 10 pilgrims were killed and many were injured following a

at a temple in Chitrakoot, Satna district.

Pilgrims had gathered in large numbers to participate in the Somvati Amavasya rituals when the ill-fated incident took place.
Hundreds of pilgrims were present at the pilgrimage path. Among the deceased, five are women.

The state government has declared an ex-gratia compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased where as Rs 50,000 for the injured.

Officials said that rescue teams were deployed immediately after the incident took place.
