Stalin gets set to take over DMK minus Karunanidhi
Chennai, Aug 9: M K Stalin is all set to take over the reigns of the DMK, with his father and the longest serving president of the party, M Karunanidhi passing away. Karunanidhi had identified Stalin as his political successor.

M K Azhagiri is unlikely to play any major role in the party. It may be recalled that he was expelled fro the DMK in 2014. Moreover it was clear that he was sidelined at the funeral of his father at the Rajaji Hall.
It was in fact Stalin, his half sister Kanimozhi and senior leader Durai Murugan who stood around Karunanidhi's body.
The general council of the DMK will be held soon and Stalin is expected to formally take over the party then. Currently it is general secretary, K Anbhazhagan who is vested with all powers if the President of DMK passes away, according to the party constitution, Stalin is effectively the leader since the powers of the president were given to him when he was made working president in 2017.
