Shimla Implements Special Traffic Management Plan from December 20 to January 20 for Road Safety

The Shimla district administration is set to implement a special traffic management plan from 20 December to 20 January next year. This decision was made during a road safety meeting led by Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap. The meeting focused on strategies to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance safety.

Shimlas Traffic Management Plan Begins December 20

Approximately 500,000 vehicles are anticipated in Shimla during this period. To manage this influx, a comprehensive traffic plan has been developed. Deputy Commissioner Kashyap stated that crash barriers will be installed in accident-prone areas like Chopal, Rampur, and Shimla. A budget of Rs 40 lakh per region is proposed, with plans to be submitted to the government soon.

Traffic Management Measures

To efficiently manage traffic, 80 home guards will be deployed across the city. Temporary parking facilities for tourists will be established at various locations, with an official notification expected soon. Large trucks will have restricted entry into Shimla from 8 am to 12 pm, except for essential goods vehicles such as those carrying fuel.

During snow clearance hours, trucks will be rerouted via Anandpur. Entry restrictions for large trucks will also apply from 4 pm to 8 pm. A Quick Response Team (QRT) of home guards will be stationed at Kisan Bhawan in Dhalli. The QRT will conduct regular drills to improve readiness and respond swiftly to emergencies.

Infrastructure Enhancements

The city will see the installation of 100 new signage boards, replacing old or damaged ones. These signs will be placed at public locations, schools, hospitals, and bifurcation points, offering information on U-turns, traffic rules, and emergency contacts. Portable signage boards with winter advisories will also be used during snowfall.

Ten 4x4 vehicles equipped with snow chains and five JCB machines will be stationed in areas like Theog, Khadapathar, Kumarsain, Chopal, and Shimla for snow clearance operations. Additionally, four ambulances will be on standby to address any medical emergencies that may arise.

This well-structured plan aims to accommodate both residents and tourists while ensuring safety and smooth traffic flow throughout the busy period. The administration's proactive measures reflect their commitment to maintaining order and safety on Shimla's roads.
