SIT Investigates Alarming Cases of Violence Against Women in Panipat, Haryana
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been set up to investigate a case involving the gang rape of three women and murder in Haryana's Panipat. The opposition parties have criticized the state government for the deteriorating law-and-order situation.
The city of Panipat in Haryana has been rocked by a horrific crime involving the gangrape of three women and the murder of another, allegedly committed by the same gang. In response to this heinous act, a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) was established on Friday, September 22. The team's mandate is to probe into these shocking incidents and bring those responsible to justice. Additionally, multiple police teams have been mobilized with the aim of apprehending the accused who are currently absconding.
Formation of Special Investigation Team

A senior police official from Panipat confirmed that an SIT headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishan Kumar had been set up specifically for these cases. This investigative body comprises three members whose task is not only to unravel the circumstances surrounding these crimes but also ensure that such incidents do not recur in future. To expedite proceedings and enhance their effectiveness, fifteen police teams consisting nearly 150 personnel have also been constituted.
High-Level Visitations and Investigations
In addition to setting up investigation teams, high-ranking officials including Inspector General of Police Karnal Range Satender Kumar Gupta and Deputy Inspector General Naazneen Bhasin visited Panipat on Friday. They inspected the area where these appalling incidents took place as part of their investigations into this case which has shocked local residents and attracted national attention.
Details about The Crime
The crime reportedly occurred at a village farmhouse in Panipat during early hours on Thursday morning. A resident from Uttar Pradesh informed authorities that he had been living there along with his family as well as some relatives when they were targeted by this violent gang.
Political Backlash Amidst Rising Concerns Over Women’s Safety
This gruesome incident has sparked intense political backlash with opposition parties condemning the Manohar Lal Khattar-led government. Both Congress and AAP have claimed that the law-and-order situation in the state has deteriorated significantly, leading to an environment where women aren't safe even within their homes. These allegations underscore the urgency for authorities to address these concerns and implement measures to enhance safety standards.
In conclusion, this shocking incident in Haryana's Panipat serves as a grim reminder of the persistent threat posed by violent crime against women in India. The formation of a Special Investigation Team and multiple police teams is certainly a step forward towards ensuring justice for victims. However, it also highlights the need for broader systemic changes including improved law enforcement practices and stricter legislation aimed at preventing such horrific acts from occurring in future.
