Special drive on March 9 to include names in electoral rolls

Thane, Mar 7: District Collector and Election Officer P Velrasu said on Friday that eligible

who do not find their names in electoral rolls now have a last chance to get their names included in a special drive to be conducted on March 9, 2014, at their

stations.

The special drive has been undertaken to ensure that maximum number of voters exercise franchise for the coming Lok Sabha polls. Distribution of around five lakh Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC) would also be undertaken in 24 assembly segments shortly, he said.

Deputy District Election Officer Madhavi Sardeshmukh who explained the election schedule to the media said that election department staff would also collect photographs from voters until March 15, in order to update electoral rolls voter's pictures.

Replying to reporters' questions, he the collector said that the election department would conduct a safety and vulnerability assessment of more than 7000 polling stations in the district.

Vulnerability mapping wound be carried out, so that additional police forces could be deployed if needed. All contesting candidates would be required to open a fresh bank account in which transactions of credit and debit of poll expenses would be known, he said.

Prior to filing up nominations, each candidate would be required to provide details of such bank accounts which would have be totally different from other operative bank accounts of the candidate.

Such accounts may be opened by candidates jointly with his election agent only and not any other person, the officer clarified.
