Sopore attacks: Why is the Hizbul Mujahideen hiding?
Srinagar, May 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have said that it is not the Lashkar-e-Islam but the Hizbul Mujahideen which has carried out the Sopore attacks targeting the telecom sector.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police which has been investigating the matter along with the help of the Intelligence agencies has found members of the Hizbul Mujahideen to be involved in these attacks.

OneIndia had reported (Sopore attack: Targetting communication and a lie called Lashkar-e-Islam) that the group Lashkar-e-Islam has no interest in Kashmir and it is a proxy of Pakistan which is carrying out these strikes.
Why is Hizbul Mujahideen hiding?
The Hizbul Mujahideen one of the most dangerous terrorist outfits in Jammu and Kashmir has not claimed responsibility for the Sopore strikes. Instead it has printed posters in the name of the Lashkar-e-Islam and pasted it on the walls.
The Hizbul Mujahideen wants to strike but does not want to claim responsibility. Intelligence Bureau officials say that with their local support dwindling, the Hizbul wants to play it safe in Kashmir.
It feels that if it claims responsibility for the attacks, local support for them will further dwindle. It realizes that telecom is a necessity for the local people and cutting off communication will not go down too well.
Hence it has decided to put the blame on the Lashkar-e-Islam, an outfit which does not exist in principle today. The LeI had merged with the Tehrik-e-Taliban last year.
Why is the telecom sector being attacked?
There are many reasons as to why a terrorist group would attack the telecom sector. One of the prime reasons behind the latest spate of attacks is because they want to create a fear and ensure that telecom companies stop operations ahead of the Amarnath Yatra.
If the telecom sector is down, then it will cause a great deal of difficulty for the devotees. There has been a raging battle that has been waged by terrorist groups in the past as well against the Amarnath Yatra.
Secondly the terrorist groups feel that these mobile towers are used by the Intelligence and security agencies to track movements of terrorist groups. Informers of the police, intelligence and the army use mobile phones to pass on information.
Cutting off the telephone lines would put the security agencies in a difficult situation the Hizbul Mujahideen feels.
Hizbul Mujahideen reacts
Meanwhile the Hizbul Mujahideen has condemned the statements of the Jammu and Kashmir police. The Deputy Commander of the outfit, Saifullah Khalid has said that such statements are being made to hide the crimes of the Indian agencies.
Further it is said that the Jammu and Kashmir Inspector General of Police Syed Javed Mujtaba Geelani can become a star in eyes of Prime minister Narendra Modi. However the freedom of the Kashmiri people will always know Geelani as an agent of India.
The Hizbul says that the Indian agencies want to defame them as they are afraid of the widespread support that the Hizbul Mujahideen is getting.
