Sooraj Pancholi reacts after being acquitted in Jiah Khan suicide case

A CBI court in Mumbai announced its verdict in the 10-year old Jiah Khan case. Actor Sooraj Pancholi who was accused of killing Jihah was acquitted in the case.

Following the verdict Sooraj sad, 'truth always wins, God is great.' He posted this on his social media account with folded hands and a heart emoji.

The Special CBI Court acquitted the actor from charges of abScreenshot 2023-04-28 at 1.58.29 PM.pngetting the suicide of Jiah Khan in 2013, while citing that there was lack of evidence against him.

Sooraj was charged with Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code which deals with abetment to suicide.

His father Adithya Pancholi told news channels that the verdict of the court is a huge relief for the family. "It is a huge relief not only for Sooraj, but the whole family," he said.

The court maintained that although there were 22 prosecution witnesses in the case, that was not enough to prove that the actor was directly involved.

Jiah's mother Rabia maintained that her daughter had been murdered. "I have maintained that she had been killed, but the court has given its judgment on the basis of the abetment to suicide. I respect the judgment of the court. The CBI has not collected evidence. We will go to the High Court," Rabia also said.

Sooraj was the main accused in the case after Rabia accused him of abetting his Daugther's suicide. Last week Judge, A S Sayyad and heard the final arguments before reserving orders on the matter. "Due to paucity of evidence, this court can't hold you (Sooraj Pancholi) guilty, hence acquitted," the court held.
