Sonia re-elected Congress Parliamentary Party leader

New Delhi, May 24:

was Saturday re-elected leader of the

Parliamentary Party.

This was the first meeting of the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) after the debacle in the Lok Sabha election where the party could win only 44 seats.

Earlier, there were rumours that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were resigning from their posts, taking responsibility for the election debacle. Rahul's leadership was widely criticised and recently Milind Deora and Priya Dutt had openly criticised the party leadership for the election rout. Many Congress leaders had demanded that Sonia be r-elected as party head and Rahul gandhi be replaced by his sister Priyanka Gandhi.
