Solar Eclipse 2017: Things to do and what to avoid
People who live in areas which are affected by Surya Grahan should take a bath when the eclipse starts.
The Solar Eclipse 2017 will take place on August 21. Surya Grahan as it is known in Hindi is considered to be inauspicious in the Indian sub-continent. This is known as Sutak Kaal.

What is Sutak Kaal
During the Sutak Kaal no inauspicious work is carried out according to astrospeak. The time starting at 12 hours before the solar eclipse begins and at the same time Sutak Kaal starts. When this begins the temples are kept shut and no worship takes places.

What not to do and what to do
Since the start time of the Solar eclipse until its end, it is best to do indulge in chanting of mantras, meditation, prayers and hawan. However, no idol worship should be done. Once the Sutak kaal is over, one should bathe, wear new clothes and clean the idols with Ganga jal, astrospeak also advises. At this time it is also advised that food should not be eaten and cooking should be avoided. It is also advised that the Gayatri mantra be recited and a lighting a lamp is advised.

What to do after the solar eclipse?
After the solar eclipse, one should take a bath, wear clean clothes. One should also pay tribute to the ancestors and offering of charity would be considered auspicious.

People who live in areas which are affected by Surya Grahan should take a bath when the eclipse starts. During the mid period, it is advised to meditate. At the end of the ecplise, doing charity is favourable.

What mantras to chant during solar eclipse
Chanting of any mantra is advisable. The surya mantra can be chanted. The Mahamritunjay mantra, reliever of all sorts of problems can be good if chanted.
