Social media euphoric over announcement of Bharat Ratna to Vajpayee, Pt Malaviya

New Delhi, Dec 24: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and educationist Madan Mohan Malaviya were today chosen for the country's highest civilian award Bharat Ratna.

The announcement came ahead of Vajpayee's 90th birthday tomorrow.

"The President has been pleased to award Bharat Ratna to Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya (posthumously) and to Atal Bihari Vajpayee," a press communique from Rashtrapati Bhavan said.

The Modi Government on Wednesday recommended their names to President Pranab Mukherjee.

While, the BJP and Shiv Sena have been demanding Bharat Ratna for former PM for the last few years, other political leader like Nitish Kumar and Mamata Banerjee have also supported and welcomed the move.
