Social Media Confession: Probe Into INLD Haryana Chief's Killing Intensifies

It was announced by Haryana Police that a post on social media, purportedly attributed to UK-based gangster Kapil Sangwan, is being verified, on Thursday.

This post claimed responsibility for the killing of Indian National Lok Dal's state unit chief Nafe Singh Rathee. Rathee, along with Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) worker Jai Kishan, was fatally shot when their vehicle was attacked with bullets in Jhajjar's Bahadurgarh on Sunday.

The attack, occurring just ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, elicited strong reactions from opposition parties in the BJP-ruled state. Jhajjar police disclosed that the social media post, purportedly authored by Sangwan, confessing to the killing, is under scrutiny. The post also alleged Rathee's close association with Sangwan's rival gangster.

A Jhajjar police official stated that the post and its claims are currently being verified, with 15 individuals thus far booked in connection to the murder case. Former BJP MLA Naresh Kaushik and others were named in the FIR registered on Monday, which also included five unnamed accused.

The case was filed under various IPC sections, notably 302 (murder), and the Arms Act. Nafe Singh Rathee's nephew Rakesh, in his police complaint, detailed that five unidentified assailants, who trailed them in a car, disembarked and opened fire indiscriminately near the Barahi railway crossing.

Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij declared on Monday that the investigation into the INLD's state unit chief's killing will be transferred to the CBI. Senior INLD leader Abhay Singh Chautala accused the BJP-JJP government of neglecting to provide adequate security to Rathee, despite evident threats to his life.
