Smart City project: Bengaluru's round the clock security

Bengaluru, Feb 16: Bengaluru city is all set to witness never before like security. The Church Street blasts and also the Intelligence inputs suggesting that the city is extremely vulnerable has prompted the police to sit up and take notice.

As a first step 3,000 CCTVs will be installed and there would be 300 personnel guarding important locations round the clock. The entire focus of the security is on the Central Business District or the CBD.

The thrust of the security forces would be at the CBD in the first phase. The CBD covers the Vidhan Soudha area and all establishments in the 3 kilometre radius.

CBD Project details

The CBD or the Smart City project will come into force soon says commissioner of police, Bengaluru city, M N Reddi.

The procurement process is underway the commissioner also states.

There are around 300 personnel of the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force who would be roped in for this project.

All these persons would be positioned in around the 3 kilometre radius of Vidhan Soudha.

As part of this project 80 jeeps and 160 motorcycles are being procured. There would be an additional 3000 CCTVs installed in the CBD area which would be directly connected to the control room.

How does it help?

The intention of deploying such a major force is to ensure that the reaction time to any incident is quick. In case of an incident, this elite force would reach the spot immediately.

Normally the police takes time to reach a crime spot after an incident. However with this force spread across the main parts of the city, the reaction time would be reduced.

However, this is the first phase of the project and is restricted only to the main part of the city. In the days to come the police are expected to expand their area of operation under this project.
