S M Krishna next governor of Tamil Nadu?

Former Chief Minister of Karnataka, S M Krishna is likely to be made the Governor of Tamil Nadu. Krishna will formally join the BJP on Wednesday. He had resigned from the Congress in January.

Krishna's entry into the BJP was a closely watched affair. The BJP roped in Krishna keeping in mind the a large amount of the Vokkaliga vote that he has under his belt.

The BJP is yet to make a final announcement on Krishna being appointed as the Tamil Nadu Governor. A decision may be taken a day or two after he joins the BJP. For the BJP the state of TN is crucial as it looks to make a mark in the state.

Tamil Nadu has not had a permanent Governor for long. The post has been held by Vidyasagar who is also the Governor of Maharashtra.

Apart from Krishna, the name of Anandiben Patel, the former Chief Minister of Gujarat too has been doing the rounds. The BJP was planning on appointing her as the Governor of Tamil Nadu.

It may be recalled that the name of D H Shankaramurthy too had been proposed. However there was opposition in Tamil Nadu since he is from Karnataka and the two states are at logger heads over the Cauvery Waters issue. It would be interesting to see if there would be opposition if Krishna's name goes through.
