Six candidates won Tripura elections with less than 500 votes margin: Report
In the 2018 elections held in Tripura, the winners won by an average of 53 per cent of the votes polled.
The winners in the Tripura Assembly won by an average of 48 per cent of the votes polled, a report said.
The report was compiled by the Tripura Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms.

23 winners of 38 per cent of the candidates won with 50 per cent and above of the total votes polled in their constituency.
37 or 62 per cent winners won with less than 50 per cent of the total votes polled in their constituency.
7 or 44 per cent out of 16 winners with declared criminal cases have won with a vote share of 50 per cent and above, the report said.
10 or 48 per cent out of 21 crorepati winners have won with a vote share of 50 per cent and above.
Margin of Victory:
- 6 winners have won with a margin of victory of less than 500 votes.
- 5 winners have won with more than 40 per cent margin of victory.
Winners with Declared Criminal Cases and their Margin of Victory:
- 12 out of 16 winners with declared criminal cases have won against a runner up with a clean background.
- Among these 12 winners, 6 winners have won with more than 10 per cent margin of victory.
- Ranjit Debbarma (Tipra Motha Party) from Ramchandraghat (ST) Constituency won with 43 per cent margin of victory.
Crorepati Winners and their Margin of Victory:
- 16 out of 21 crorepati winners have won against a non-crorepati runners up.
- Among these 16 winners, 2 winners have won with more than 40 per cent margin of victory.
- Among these, Animesh Debbarma (Tipra Motha Party) from Asharambari (ST) constituency won with 51 per cent margin of victory.
Performance of Women Winners:
- Among the 60 winners, 9 are women.
- Among these 9 women winners, 3 women winners have won with more than 10 per cent margin of victory.
- Among the women winners, Swapna Debbarma (Tipra Motha Party) from Mandai Bazar (ST) Constituency has won with the highest vote share, i.e. 66% in her constituency and 50 per cent margin of victory.
Performance of Re-elected Winners:
- Out of total 25 re-elected winners, none have won with less than 30 per cent of vote share in their respective constituencies. 3(12 per cent) have won with more than 50 per cent of vote share.
- 13 or 52 per cent re-elected winners have won with less than 10 per cent margin of victory whereas 1 has won with more than 30 per cent margin of victory.
NOTA:
The NOTA button instated by the ECI in 2013 gave the voters an option of rejecting all the candidates in their constituency. Out of 25, 29,659 votes polled in Tripura Assembly, 2023, 34,449 (1.36 per cent) were polled for NOTA.
