Sisters Raped and Murdered in Imphal Amid Manipur Violence, Man Informs DCW Chief

Two siblings were raped and murdered in Imphal, Manipur, amid ethnic clashes, according to reports. The victims' brother told Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal that no minister or state official had met the family.

According to Maliwal, two sisters, aged 21 and 24, were brutally raped and murdered during the strife. During her recent visit to Manipur, Maliwal met with the victims' brother in Kangpokpi, where he revealed that neither any minister nor any state administration official has offered support to their grieving family.

Sharing a video of her conversation with the victims' brother, Maliwal expressed her concern over the situation. The sisters, both college students, were working at a mall in Imphal while awaiting the start of their academic session.

The man informed Maliwal that an FIR has been filed in the case, but no arrests have been made so far. He further revealed that their mother is residing in a relief camp, and their father's health has deteriorated since the tragic incident. The siblings' last memory together was during Christmas celebrations when they visited their hometown.

Maliwal assured the man that justice would be pursued, and the commission would provide legal assistance to the family. She expressed her heartfelt condolences and pledged to work diligently for justice in the matter.

This incident adds to the alarming reports of violence against women in the region, which gained national attention after a video of two Kuki women being stripped and paraded by a mob went viral on social media, causing widespread outrage.

The Supreme Court, reacting to the violence perpetrated against women in Manipur, described it as of "unprecedented magnitude" and expressed concern over the handling of the case by the state police. The court will be hearing several pleas related to Manipur violence.
