Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam is scheduled for a two-day visit to Odisha, beginning Friday. During his stay, he will explore the Konark Sun Temple, a vaccine manufacturing facility, and the World Skill Centre in Bhubaneswar. This trip marks his first visit to the state before the Utkarsh Odisha: Make-in-Odisha conclave on January 28 and 29.

Upon arrival at around 11.30 am, Shanmugaratnam will be greeted at the airport. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, along with other ministers and senior officials, will meet him at a hotel later. The President's agenda includes attending a MoU signing ceremony in the afternoon. This agreement aims to boost cooperation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to improve the skill development ecosystem, especially for the semiconductor sector in Odisha.
Focus on Skill Development
The World Skill Centre, a significant stop on Shanmugaratnam's itinerary, was established by Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education and Education Services (ITEES). It received funding from the Asian Development Bank. This centre plays a crucial role in enhancing skills in various industries within the state.
On January 18, Shanmugaratnam will visit two key sites: the historic Sun Temple in Konark and Bharat Biotech's vaccine manufacturing plant located near Bhubaneswar. These visits highlight the cultural and industrial aspects of Odisha.
High-Level Delegation Accompanying
Accompanying President Shanmugaratnam is a high-level delegation comprising ministers, MPs, and officials. Their presence underscores the importance of this visit in strengthening ties between Singapore and Odisha.
The upcoming Utkarsh Odisha: Make-in-Odisha conclave is set for January 28 and 29. This event aims to promote investment opportunities and showcase Odisha's potential as a hub for manufacturing and innovation.
Shanmugaratnam's visit is expected to foster collaboration between Singapore and Odisha in various sectors. By focusing on skill development and exploring cultural landmarks, this trip aims to enhance bilateral relations.
