Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang Distributes Portfolios to Cabinet
In a significant move within the Sikkim government, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has undertaken a comprehensive allocation of portfolios to his cabinet ministers, as confirmed by Chief Secretary VB Pathak. This strategic distribution of responsibilities comes as part of the administration's efforts to streamline governance and enhance the efficiency of public service delivery in the state.

Chief Minister Tamang, in addition to his leadership role, has retained a substantial number of key departments. These include the home and finance departments, planning and development, personnel, power, excise, land revenue and disaster management, transport, information and public relations, information technology, skill development, and any department not specifically assigned to other ministers.
The distribution of portfolios among the ministers reflects a balanced approach towards addressing various administrative and developmental needs of Sikkim. Sonam Lama has been entrusted with the public health engineering, water resources, and ecclesiastical departments. Arun Kumar Upreti will oversee the rural development and cooperation departments.
Samdup Lepcha is set to manage social welfare, women and child development, and printing and stationery departments. Bhim Hang Limboo has been assigned buildings & housing and labour departments. The urban development and food & civil supplies departments now fall under the purview of Bhoj Raj Rai.
GT Dhungel will head the health & family welfare and culture departments. Puran Kumar Gurung is tasked with leading agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry & veterinary services, and fisheries development portfolios. Pintso Namgyal Lepcha has been given responsibility for forest & environment, mines and geology, and science & technology.
Nar Bahadur Dahal will take charge of the roads & bridges department. Raju Basnet has been allocated education, sports & youth affairs, law and parliamentary affairs departments. Lastly, TT Bhutia will oversee tourism and civil aviation and commerce & industries departments.
Governor's Approval
The allocation of these portfolios has received formal approval from Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya. This endorsement underscores the governor's support for the Chief Minister's vision of a well-organized cabinet poised to address the diverse needs of Sikkim's populace.
This restructuring within the Sikkim government marks a pivotal step towards enhancing administrative efficiency and fostering development across various sectors. By assigning specific portfolios to the ministers, Chief Minister Tamang aims to ensure focused attention on each department's unique challenges and opportunities.
The recent portfolio allocation is expected to catalyze progress in Sikkim by promoting more coordinated efforts among different government departments. It reflects a strategic move to leverage the expertise of individual ministers for the holistic development of the state.
