Siddaramaiah in New Delhi today to finalise MLC candidate list

Bengaluru, Dec 1: Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah will be in New Delhi today to discuss the preparations for the elections to the Member of the Legislative Council.

The Chief Minister would be accompanied by Home Minister, Dr G Parameshwar to Delhi and they would hold discussions with the party high command regarding the polls.

The Congress is yet to announce the list of names for the Legislative Council polls for the 25 seats from local bodies. The BJP has announced its first list of candidates for 12 constituencies.

Congress sources informed OneIndia that the list would be finalised after meeting with senior leaders from the party at New Delhi. Siddaramaiah is expected to spend a day or two finalising the list of candidates to contest the MLC polls.

There is a rush for the post of MLCs and the Congress faces a problem from the JD(S). The JD(S) wants to play the wait and watch game before announcing its list. It wants to rope in disgruntled Congress candidates who would not be given a ticket.

The final list of candidates needs to be announced by December 9th as it is the last day for filing the nominations. Elections would be held on December 27th.

During the visit to Delhi, Siddaramaiah is expected to tell the high command that they would preferably renominate the 12 sitting Congress MLCs for the contest. A decision would be taken only after the high command clears that proposal.
