Shubhanshu Shukla Meets PM Modi, Gifts Indian Flag He Carried To International Space Station

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla, the Indian Air Force test pilot and astronaut who recently returned from the Ax-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS). In a symbolic gesture, Shukla presented Modi with the Indian flag he had taken to space, marking India's growing stature in human spaceflight.

The Prime Minister described the moment as "deeply emotional," noting that the Tricolour's journey to space reflects the aspirations of a rising India. He praised Shukla for his courage and scientific contributions, calling him an "inspiration for young Indians to dream big and reach for the stars."

PM Highlights Link to Gaganyaan

During their conversation, Modi lauded the experiments conducted on human physiology in microgravity and space agriculture technologies as being directly relevant to India's upcoming Gaganyaan program. He underlined that Shukla's experience aboard the ISS strengthens India's readiness for its first human spaceflight mission.

"Each step in space brings India closer to new frontiers of science and innovation," Modi said, emphasising his government's commitment to advancing India's space programme in collaboration with international partners.

Recognition in Parliament

Earlier in the day, Parliament paid tribute to Shukla's achievements. Union Minister Jitendra Singh highlighted the astronaut's role in shaping India's space future, while Congress MP Shashi Tharoor posted on X:

"How proud all Indians are of Commander Shubhanshu Shukla's mission to the ISS."

India's Expanding Space Vision

For Modi, Shukla's mission is a symbol of India's place in global space exploration. The Prime Minister has consistently tied such achievements to his vision of a technologically advanced India that contributes meaningfully to international efforts.
