Should Be A Limit To Politics: Jaishankar On Opposition Boycott Of New Parliament Launch

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday lashed out at the opposition parties for boycotting the new Parliament building launch on Sunday, saying that there should be a limit to doing politics.

"Some people are trying to create controversy. But I believe that there should be a limit to indulging in politics. At least on such occasions, the entire country should come together and celebrate this festival," S Jaishankar said.

Jaishankar said that it is unfortunate if the inauguration is being turned into a controversy.

"I believe that the inauguration of the new Parliament building should be taken as a festival of democracy and it should be celebrated in that spirit," Jaishankar was quoted saying by PTI.

A political slugfest broke out between the BJP and opposition parties after they decided to boycott the inaugural ceremony of the new Parliament building.

The opposition parties have demanded that President Draupadi Murmu should do the honors and not Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

However, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) condemned the decision of opposition parties to boycott the May 28 inauguration function of the new Parliament building.

"This act is not merely disrespectful; it is a blatant affront to the democratic ethos and constitutional values of our great nation," read the statement issued by the NDA.

"Such flagrant disrespect towards this institution betrays not only intellectual bankruptcy but a disturbing contempt for the very essence of democracy. Regrettably, this is not the first instance of such disdain," it added.
