Shocking: Pratyusha Banerjee was pregnant, say doctors

Mumbai, Apr 19: Popular TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee, who committed suicide earlier this month was pregnant, confirmed doctors at JJ Hospital here.

According to doctors, the actress probably undergone an abortion before her death, reported the Times of India.

This has been revealed after histopathological examination of tissues from her uterus.

"The findings showed that there was a conception few days or a month before her demise, and there was a premature death of the foetal cell." The products of conception, or the placental or foetal tissue in the uterus found following delivery, termination of pregnancy or a miscarriage, were infected and degenerated. That usually hints towards a secondary infection, probably occurring due to an attempt to terminate the pregnancy."

However, it will be tough for police to establish the paternity of the foetus

Everyone was left shocked after the news of suicide of TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee broke on April 1.

The "Balika Vadhu" actress was found hanging from a fan in her suburban Goregaon residence by her boyfriend and television actor Rahul Raj Singh. She was taken to hospital but succumbed there later.

Pratyusha's last rites were subsequently carried out at the Oshiwara Crematorium in the presence of her tearful parents, other family members, her friends, actors and co-stars from the television industry.
