Shivraj Singh Chouhan Meets Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma to Discuss Agriculture and Rural Development Initiatives
Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently engaged in discussions with Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. The focus was on enhancing the rural and agricultural sectors, according to a ministry statement. During this meeting, Chouhan announced the release of Rs 4,384 crore to Rajasthan under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) for this financial year.

Chouhan detailed the allocation of funds, specifying Rs 3,286 crore for wages, Rs 944 crore for material components, and Rs 154 crore for administrative expenses. In response, CM Sharma expressed gratitude on behalf of Rajasthan. The meeting also reviewed the progress of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin in the state.
Focus on Agricultural Development
The discussion extended to agricultural schemes like Per Drop More Crop under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY). They talked about constructing pond-like tanks for rainwater harvesting and field fencing. Notable agricultural advancements in Jaipur's Bassi region were also highlighted during their conversation.
CM Sharma showed interest in deploying agricultural supervisors at the Gram Panchayat level with central government support. Other topics included strengthening interstate trade and promoting Rajasthan's superior peanut varieties and popular castor oil.
Housing and Livelihood Initiatives
Chouhan praised Rajasthan's implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin. He assured that approvals for additional houses would follow once ongoing survey verifications are complete. The plan includes building 7.46 lakh houses in Rajasthan, including those under the PM-JANMAN scheme.
The National Rural Livelihoods Mission was another key topic. Discussions aimed at improving livelihood opportunities in rural areas were part of the agenda. These initiatives are crucial for boosting economic growth in these regions.
Monsoon Impact and Future Prospects
CM Sharma shared positive news about this year's monsoon progress in Rajasthan. He noted that favourable rainfall is expected to result in a significantly better harvest by 2025. This optimistic outlook could enhance agricultural productivity and economic stability in the state.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Choudhary, Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi, Rural Development Secretary Shailesh Singh, Director General of ICAR Dr. M.L. Jat, and other senior officials from both central ministries and the Rajasthan government.
