In a shocking incident in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, a Congress corporator has been accused of raping a teenager and compelling her to have an abortion. The police have filed charges against the alleged perpetrator, Sagar Ghavri.
Allegations against the Corporator

Sagar Ghavri, 30 years old and resident of Pichhore town, is alleged to have filmed the sexual assault on the minor girl. He then supposedly exploited her by threatening to circulate this video. According to official reports, Ghavri took the victim who was four months pregnant at that time, for an abortion in Jhansi town in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh on September 25.
The Victim's Ordeal
When the girl did not return home following this ordeal, her concerned parents lodged a missing person report with local law enforcement authorities. Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP), Prashant Sharma confirmed this development. Upon her return home after enduring such trauma, she bravely reported these crimes against herself leading to registration of FIR (First Information Report) against Ghavri.
FIR Registered under Various Sections
The police registered an FIR on Wednesday under various sections of Indian Penal Code (IPC) including rape and abduction along with sections from Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Although she was a minor when these heinous acts were committed upon her; she turned 18 at the time when FIR was registered as per official sources. The search is currently underway for arresting the accused corporator.
Action Taken by Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee
In response to these grave allegations against one of their members, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) acted swiftly by expelling Ghavri from primary membership. This move is seen as an attempt to maintain the party's image and standing among its supporters.
In conclusion, this incident has not only brought forth the issue of sexual violence against minors but also raises questions about the moral accountability of individuals in power. It underlines the urgency for stringent actions against such offenders irrespective of their political affiliations or social standing. The courage shown by the young survivor in reporting her ordeal must be lauded and it is hoped that justice will be delivered swiftly.
