Shiv Sena shuts meat shops including KFC in Gurugram for Navratri

The notices issued with an instruction that the meat and chicken shops owners to keep shops shut during Navratri and on Tuesdays.

The Shiv Sena workers on Tuesday gave notices to meat shops and forced shutting down of at least 500 meat shops in Gurugram, including KFC outlets. The notices demanded that the shops to remain shut during Navratri. The Shiv Sainiks have also served notices to shop selling non-vegetarian food and threatened them to shut their outlets every Tuesday in future.

Ritu Raj, general secretary and spokesperson of Shiv Sena Gurugram wing said that they have issued notices with an instruction that the meat and chicken shops owners to keep shops shut during Navratri and on Tuesdays. And those who do not follow the instruction will have to face dire consequences.

According to an India Today report, the areas targetted by Shiv Sainiks in Gurugram include Palam Vihar, Surat Nagar, Ashok Vihar, Sector 5, 9, Pataudi Chowk, Jacobpura, Sadar Bazaar, Khandsa Anaj Mandi, and Sector 14 markets. The report says that Sena workers asked customers at KFC outlets to vacate the places so they could shut them down.

The closure of illegal slaughterhouses in Uttar Pradesh is possibly inspiring other Hindutva organisations and political parties in states run by the BJP government. However, the meat sellers and butchers are not happy with the move and have termed the government's decision against illegal slaughterhouses as 'arbitrary'.
