Shiv Sena's Mahadeshwar is new Mumbai mayor

The BJP had last week decided not to field a mayoral candidate thus paving the Shiv Sena to install its candidate.

The Shiv Sena's Vishwanath Mahadeshwar has been elected as the new Mumbai mayor. The BJP corporators extended their support to Mahadeshwar during the mayoral poll to the BMC on Wednesday.

Four independents had extended support to the Shiv Sena. The BJP had last week decided not to field a mayoral candidate thus paving the Shiv Sena to install its candidate. The BJP and the Shiv Sena bagged 82 and 84 seats respectively in the recently held BMC election.

Maharahstra Chief Minister had on March 4 said that the BJP is ready to support the Shiv Sena but would not take any post including that of deputy mayor, leader of opposition or chairmanship of any committee in the BMC.
