Eknath Shinde Prepares for Maharashtra Polls with Strategic Shiv Sena Appointments

The Eknath Shinde-led government has taken steps to address potential unrest within the ruling Shiv Sena by making strategic appointments ahead of the assembly elections. On Monday, former MP Anandrao Adsul and party MLA Sanjay Shirsat were given significant roles. Shirsat, who had previously voiced his dissatisfaction over not receiving a cabinet position, has been appointed as the chairman of the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), a major state government enterprise.

Shindes Strategic Moves Before Polls

Key Appointments in Shiv Sena

Sanjay Shirsat's new role as CIDCO chairman is notable because this position is equivalent to a cabinet rank, according to an order from the Urban Development Department led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. This move is seen as an effort to placate Shirsat and other party members who have expressed discontent. Additionally, Siddhesh Kadam, son of Sena leader Ramdas Kadam, has been appointed chairman of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board.

Anandrao Adsul, another key figure in the party, has been named chairman of the Maharashtra State Scheduled Caste and Tribes Commission. Adsul had previously claimed that he was promised a governorship, which did not materialise. His new appointment comes with a tenure of one-and-a-half years or until further government orders.

Additional Appointments and Cabinet Ranks

Dharmpal Meshram, vice president and spokesperson of the state BJP, has been appointed deputy chairperson of the State Scheduled Caste and Tribes Commission for a three-year term. This appointment is part of a broader strategy to manage internal party dynamics and ensure stability within the ruling coalition.

The state government has also elevated the post of Hemant Patil, former MP and initial head of the Balasaheb Thackeray Turmeric Research and Training Centre (BTTRTC) in Vasmat tehsil of Hingoli district, to cabinet minister rank. The BTTRTC was established in 2022 and has since played a significant role in agricultural research.

Political analysts suggest that these appointments are part of Chief Minister Shinde's efforts to appease colleagues who have been unhappy for various reasons. By granting key positions and cabinet ranks, Shinde aims to maintain unity within the Shiv Sena as they approach the upcoming elections.

The recent appointments reflect a strategic move by the Shiv Sena leadership to address internal grievances and strengthen their position ahead of crucial political contests.
