Shashi Tharoor helps government draft resolution on Kulbhushan Jadhav

Shashi Tharoor told the house that the issue of Pakistan victimising Kulbhushan needed to be internationalised

Senior leader of the Congress and former United Nations diplomat Shashi Tharoor helped the government draft a resolution on Kulbhushan Jadhav. The government on Tuesday decided to draft a resolution that would be adopted by both houses. Shashi Tharoor while making his statement about Jadhav in the Lok Sabha had claimed that Pakistan violated international norms and the geneva convention and the matter had to be internationalised.

External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj sought Shashi Tharoor's help in drafting the resolution after her statement in the Lok Sabha. The draft will be vetted by the prime minister and other political parties. Tharoor insisted that India put pressure on Pakistan internationally. Shashi Tharoor agreed to help draft the resolution after the leader of opposition Mallikarjun Kharge's nod.

This is not the first time that the BJP government has sought Shashi Tharoor's help in drafting resolutions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked Tharoor to draft a statement condemning Pakistan for freeing Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, a key plotter of the 2008 Mumbai terror attack. The resolution condemns the death sentence given to Jadhav by a Pakistani military court.
