Swift Action by Panvel City Police

Acting on specific intelligence, a team of Panvel City Police swiftly moved into action on Sunday evening. They successfully apprehended several of the accused from the Panvel highway, while others were nabbed outside a dance bar in Vashi, Navi Mumbai. Subsequently, all six individuals were handed over to the Pune crime branch for further investigation.

Pune Police's Initial Arrests

Prior to the Navi Mumbai Police's intervention, the Pune Police had already arrested eight individuals, including the prime suspect Sahil Polekar (20 years old) and two lawyers. These arrests were made at a location along the Pune-Satara highway, where firearms and live bullets were also seized.

Main Suspect Ramdas Marne in Custody

Among the individuals apprehended by the Navi Mumbai Police is Ramdas Marne, who is believed to have played a pivotal role in the conspiracy and execution of Mohol's killing. Marne is considered a key suspect in the case.

Mohol's Background and Tragic Demise

Sharad Mohol, a notorious history-sheeter, had a history of criminal activities, including kidnapping, attempted murder, and murder. On January 5, Mohol was targeted by three assailants near his residence in Sutardara, Kothrud. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to bullet wounds in his chest and shoulder.

The Pune Police crime branch, determined to bring the perpetrators to justice, received crucial information indicating the presence of the accused individuals in Navi Mumbai. This information was promptly shared with the Navi Mumbai Police, leading to the successful arrests.

Additional Arrests by Pune Police

In a parallel development, the Pune Police announced the arrest of two more individuals, Vitthal Shelar (36 years old) and Ramdas Marne (36 years old), both residents of Mulshi. These arrests further expanded the number of individuals apprehended in the case to a total of 15.

Shelar's Political Connections

Vitthal Shelar, prior to his alleged involvement in the Mohol murder case, operated his own gang and gained public attention when he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2017. Shelar's association with the BJP was formalized at a function in Maval, in the presence of the then MLA, the late Girish Bapat.

Mohol's Rise and Fall

Sharad Mohol, who hailed from a village in Mulshi tehsil, initially gained notoriety when he and an associate were accused of murdering suspected Indian Mujahideen operative Mohammad Qateel Siddiqui inside Yerawada jail. Although he was later acquitted in that case, Mohol's criminal activities continued.

Gang Rivalries and Revenge

According to police records, Mohol was associated with history-sheeter Sandip Mohol, who was killed by the rival Kishor Marne gang in 2006. Seeking revenge, Sharad Mohol took control of the Mohol gang and retaliated by killing Kishor Marne in October 2010.
