Shanta Kumar Asks Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu About IPS Officer's Leave Linked to Political Pressure
BJP leader Shanta Kumar has urged Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to clarify the circumstances surrounding the leave of Baddi Superintendent of Police, Ilma Afroz. Questions have arisen about whether her leave was influenced by powerful figures displeased with her effective work.

In a Facebook post, Shanta Kumar expressed concern over the silence from both the Chief Minister and the government regarding this issue. He requested an explanation for the unexplained leave of the IPS officer. "Social media and news from other sources suggest that SP Afroz is a capable and honest officer who has taken strict action against illegal activities of a politician's family and that is why she has been sent on leave by the government," he stated.
Allegations of Pressure
Shanta Kumar highlighted that Afroz, known for her integrity, might have faced repercussions due to her actions against illegal activities. He pointed out that without any official clarification, it is easy to believe such reports. The BJP leader emphasised that Afroz should not face consequences for her dedication and honesty, as it could tarnish the government's reputation.
He further mentioned that Afroz comes from a humble background and has achieved significant milestones, including studying at Oxford. Her journey to becoming an IPS officer reflects her talent and commitment. "She should not be punished for her honesty and dedication to duty as it will bring a bad name for the government," he added.
Concerns Over Sand Mining Mafia
There are allegations that pressure from the sand mining mafia might have influenced the decision to send Afroz on leave. The BJP leader noted that this mafia is expanding in the state, and some sources suggest their involvement in this matter. Chief Minister Sukhu had previously stated that Afroz took leave for family reasons.
Attempts to reach Ilma Afroz for comments were unsuccessful. The situation remains unclear, with many awaiting further details from the government regarding these allegations and the true reasons behind her leave.
