Shah hits off Karnataka poll campaign from crucial Old Mysuru Region

Union Home Minister, Amit Shah has started his campaign in the Old Mysuru Region ahead of the Karnataka assembly elections.

Shah offered prayers to Goddess Chamundeshwari atop the Chamundi hills in Mysuru on Monday. He was welcomed at the Mysuru airport by MLA S A Ramada's, MP Pratap Simha and other leaders of the BJP.

After being welcomed, Shah proceeded to Chamundeshwari hills accompanied by other BJP leaders.

The campaign is an important one for the BJP as the party is looking to make inroads in the Old Mysuru Region. The party has performed well in the northern part of Karnataka, but has fallen short in the Old Mysuru Region. Shah at the start of the campaign made it clear that the party has to focus on this region, if it has to win with a majority in Karnataka. The party has fallen short in the assembly segment, but has performed exceptionally well in the parliamentary polls.

Almost all parties are focusing heavily on this region as this can be a game changer. The JD(S) usually tends to do well in this region as the Vokkaliga population is higher. To be sure, JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda is from the Vokkaliga community.

During his visit, Shah will hold a roadshow from Gundlupet in Chamarajanagar. It was in the same area that the Congress began its Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Thousands of people gathered ahead of Shah's roadshow. From here, Shah will leave for Sakleshpur and hold a roadshow. Further he will proceed to Hubbali.

Elections in Karnataka will be held on May 10 and the results will be declared on May 13.
