SGPC to Print QR Codes on 'Saroops' of Guru Granth Sahib for Enhanced Tracking

In a significant move towards modernizing religious practices, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) announced on Sunday its plan to incorporate QR code technology in the printing of holy scriptures of Guru Granth Sahib. This initiative aims to facilitate an accurate count and provide related information about these sacred texts. SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami highlighted the committee's intention to extend this technology to cover holy saroops currently located in various gurdwaras and with the Sangat in their homes.

The decision was made during an executive committee meeting held by the SGPC. Dhami, addressing reporters post-meeting, shared insights into several resolutions passed by the executive, including strategies for observing upcoming centenaries significant to Sikh history. Furthermore, a notable policy update was introduced regarding the SGPC and its affiliated institutions' employees, setting a maximum foreign leave entitlement of two years throughout their service period.

Another key development discussed was the construction of a substantial facility for the Nishchay Civil Services Training Academy operated by the SGPC in Chandigarh. This academy plays a crucial role in preparing Sikh youth for the Union Public Service Commission and other competitive examinations. The proposed building, earmarked for Gurdwara Sahib Bagh Shaheedan, Sector 44, Chandigarh, has received an initial funding approval of Rs 6.5 crore. This move underscores SGPC's commitment to supporting educational advancement within the community.

The integration of QR code technology with religious scriptures marks a forward-thinking approach by the SGPC, blending tradition with modern technological advancements. This initiative not only aims to safeguard the sanctity and accuracy of the holy saroops but also enhances accessibility and management for devotees and religious institutions alike. With these developments, the SGPC demonstrates its dedication to both preserving Sikh heritage and embracing innovative solutions for future challenges.
