Tarun Tejpal
Panaji, Nov 27: The young colleague, who initially stayed away from legal options against Tarun Tejpal, finally cornered the former editor-in-chief of Tehelka. The complainant, who hurled sexual assault allegations against Tejpal, on Tuesday, Nov 27 tightened the noose around him after corroborating the first information report (FIR) filed by the Goa police against Tejpal.

Shyam Keswani, a noted lawyer, has been assisting the young woman in fighting the legal battle against the high-profile Tejpal. Speaking about the case, Keswani said, "...That (a separate FIR against Tejpal) may not be necessary. The legal process has already been initiated with the registration of the FIR by the Goa police. In any case, she has confirmed in writing the details of the FIR filed by the police."

Media reports quoted some sources from the investigating team as saying, "The details given by the victim are shocking. Tejpal deserves the most stringent punishment."

A nation-wide alert has been issued against Tejpal preventing his escape from the country. Meanwhile, the victim along with Keswani reached Goa to record her final statement against the accused.

Delhi High Court on Wednesday, Nov 27 is expected to pronounce its order regarding Tejpal's anticipatory bail plea. The court order will be declared after 3:30 pm. Tejpal, in his bail plea, termed the FIR against him as politically motivated. He also alleged that Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar was taking undue interest in the matter.

The family of the young journalist, on Tuesday filed a complaint to the Delhi Police about intimidation by Tarun's family members. Victim on Saturday had said that she and her family were being subjected to pressure and intimidation at an "intensely traumatic" time to "protect" Tejpal.

Delhi police said victim's mother filed a complaint with Pandav Nagar police in East Delhi against a member of the Tejpal family.

The young woman, who recently resigned from Tehelka, accused Tejpal of sexually assaulting her during a Think fest at a luxury hotel in Goa on Nov 7 and 8.
