Sensex cheer as BJP takes lead in Karnataka election results
The BSE Sensex rose 20 points to close at 35,556 on Monday amid cautious trade, a day ahead of Karnataka election results. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) benchmark index Nifty settled at 10,806, nearly unchanged from its previous close.

The BJP was leading in 120 seats while the ruling Congress was in the front in 59 constituencies in Karnataka, according to early trends.
The benchmark BSE Sensex rose 260.94 or 0.73 per cent to trade at 35,817.65. The broader NSE Nifty also jumped 70.50 points, or 0.65 per cent, to 10,877.10.
The Karnataka election results will be announced on Tuesday, May 15. Losses in the domestic stock markets came despite gains witnessed across other Asian markets, where equities held near one-month highs.
