'Sengol' Was Kept As A 'Walking Stick' In Anand Bhawan, Says PM Modi
In a significant gesture ahead of the inauguration of the new parliament building, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was received with the iconic 'Sengol' by revered Adheenam seers from Tamil Nadu.
During an interaction with the Seers, the Prime Minister expressed his happiness at the opportunity to meet them collectively and highlighted the vital role played by Tamil Nadu in India's fight for independence.

Addressing the Adheenam seers, PM Modi lamented the lack of recognition given to the people of Tamil Nadu for their contributions to India's freedom struggle. He expressed his gratitude for their presence at his residence and eagerly anticipated their attendance and blessings at the inauguration of the new Parliament House.
During the interaction, PM Modi shed light on the historical significance of the 'Sengol,' emphasising its role as a symbol of power transfer. The holy Thiruvavaduthurai Adheenam had specially crafted this ceremonial 'Sengol' in 1947. Previously, the sceptre had been displayed as a mere "walking stick" in Anand Bhawan, Prayagraj, during the Congress government's tenure. However, the current government has taken the step to retrieve the 'Sengol' from Anand Bhawan.
The ceremonial 'Sengol' was initially presented to India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, symbolising the transfer of power from the British to India. PM Modi expressed his delight at the installation of the 'Sengol' in the new Parliament building, considering it a representation of India's rich tradition. He emphasized that the 'Sengol' would serve as a reminder for public servants to remain committed to their duties and accountable to the public.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi appeared to take a veiled dig at the Opposition parties who have announced boycott of the new Parliament building inauguration, "The more united India is, the stronger it will be. Those creating obstacles in our path to development will pose various challenges. Those who can't stand India's progress will attempt to break our unity. But I believe that the strength of spirituality that the nation is deriving for your organisations will help us face all challenges," PM Modi said.
The handover of the 'Sengol' symbolises the deep respect and recognition accorded to Tamil Nadu's historical contributions in the freedom struggle. With its installation in the new Parliament building, this iconic symbol will serve as a constant reminder of the nation's duty towards its citizens.
