Shimla Deputy Commissioner Aditya Negi said two to three people may be stuck in the slaughterhouse rubble.

Sources said the houses were vacated earlier today as cracks had started to appear. As the landslide happened, the houses crashed upon the slaughterhouse, where some people were reportedly working inside.

The place lies between the old Bus Stand on Cart Road and the Shimla Bypass below. Several neighbouring houses have also been vacated and people shifted to safer places.

Rescue operation has started and people from the district administration and NDRF have reached the spot.

Meanwhile, four more bodies were pulled out of the rubble of a collapsed Shiv temple in Shimla on Tuesday and rescuers feared 10 more bodies are still trapped there as the death toll in the rain fury in Himachal Pradesh since Sunday night rose to 53, officials said.

The number of deaths in the twin landslide sites in Shimla's Summer Hill and Fagli has risen to 16, they said.
