Security Tightened Nationwide Ahead Of Ram Navami Celebrations; Cops To Keep Strict Vigil
Security measures have been beefed up across several Indian states in preparation for Ram Navami processions, with thousands of police personnel deployed, and surveillance through drones and CCTV cameras in place to ensure peace in sensitive areas.
In Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh - a focal point for the festivities - authorities have reinforced security arrangements. Systems for traffic control, firefighting equipment, drones, and CCTV cameras have been implemented.

Director General of Police Prashant Kumar has instructed local police forces to identify potentially sensitive areas and to work closely with religious leaders to maintain harmony. With large crowds anticipated, extra precautions have also been taken at railway stations and bus terminals.
Mumbai has deployed over 13,500 police personnel, including 11,000 constables, 2,500 officers, and 51 assistant commissioners. Nine platoons from the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) along with other specialist units have also been stationed to preserve law and order.
These heightened security arrangements come in the wake of recent communal incidents, including violence in Nagpur on 17 March, and in anticipation of the large gatherings expected during the celebrations. Drones will be used to monitor high-density areas such as Malvani and Malad.
Kolkata Enhances Vigilance for Over 50 Scheduled Rallies
Security has also been scaled up in Kolkata, where more than 50 rallies - including five major processions - are scheduled for Sunday. Police have mapped out routes and strengthened security, with forces to remain deployed until 7 April.
Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Verma visited key locations on Saturday and held meetings with senior officers to review preparations. He confirmed that an additional 5,000 police personnel would likely be deployed across the city to maintain public order.
In Odisha, security has been reinforced in sensitive districts including Sambalpur, Cuttack, Balasore, and Bhadrak. Sambalpur, which experienced communal clashes in 2023, has received special attention. More than 15 police platoons, along with BSF and CRPF personnel, have been stationed in the city. Surveillance is being conducted through over 100 CCTV cameras and drones.
Cuttack has also seen a strong security presence, with 25 platoons deployed to ensure peace during the processions.
Peace committee meetings have been convened in several regions across the country, engaging local religious and political leaders in efforts to prevent any potential unrest during the celebrations. Security forces remain on high alert, particularly in communally sensitive zones.
