Jammu Bolsters Security with Flag Marches Ahead of Elections and Festivals

In a significant move to bolster security and ensure a peaceful electoral process, police and security forces conducted flag marches across various districts of the Jammu region on Tuesday. This initiative aims to provide a sense of safety to voters in anticipation of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. Scheduled in five phases—April 19 in Udhampur, April 26 in Jammu, May 7 in Anantnag-Rajouri, May 13 in Srinagar, and May 20 in Baramulla—the elections are a crucial event for the Union Territory. The counting of votes is set for June 4.

Jammu Ramps Up Security for Elections

The flag marches, led by district police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), covered key districts such as Samba, Poonch, and Udhampur. According to officials, these efforts are directed towards instilling harmony within society and ensuring the elections are conducted freely, fairly, and without fear. This initiative reflects the administration's commitment to maintaining law and order during this critical period.

Furthermore, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha held a comprehensive review meeting at Raj Bhawan in Srinagar to assess the security arrangements for upcoming festivals next week. With Eid expected on April 11, Navratri commencing on April 9, and Baisakhi on April 13, the LG emphasized the importance of ensuring smooth conduct during these celebrations. He instructed Deputy Commissioners and Senior Superintendents of Police (SSP) to visit significant holy places across the Union Territory to oversee preparations.

The directives from the Lieutenant Governor include making adequate security arrangements, managing traffic and crowds efficiently, inspecting markets regularly, providing medical facilities, and ensuring fire and emergency services are readily available. These measures are intended to facilitate the observance of these festivals in a secure environment, aligning with guidelines from the Election Commission.

This comprehensive approach towards securing both the electoral process and the festive season underscores the administration's dedication to public safety and order. As the region gears up for both electoral and cultural milestones, these efforts are crucial for fostering a secure atmosphere conducive to democratic participation and communal harmony.
