Security personnel of local BJP leader opens fire; none hurt in J&K

Srinagar, May 18: Security personnel, posted at the residence of a local BJP leader in Kulgam district, fired in air after noticing suspicious movement in the area last night, police said on Wednesday (May 18).

"There was no casualty in the incident," an official said.

The police personnel deployed at the residence of Mushtaq Ahmad Malik at Khushibhatpora in Kulgam, 80 kms from here, saw some suspicious movement around midnight, a police official said.

He said the personnel fired four rounds in air as a warning.

Malik had unsuccessfully contested the assembly elections on a BJP ticket in 2014. His residence is located in the village where several families of the minority community are also living.
