Punjab Government Launches Security Operations Centre to Protect Critical IT Infrastructure
The Punjab government plans to set up a security operations centre (SOC) to safeguard its critical IT infrastructure. This includes various state government applications and websites. The decision was made during the 19th meeting of the Punjab State e-Governance Society (PSeGS) board, chaired by Cabinet Minister for Governance Reforms, Aman Arora, according to an official release.

Cyber Security Capabilities in Punjab
The SOC will be established at a cost of Rs 42.07 crore. This initiative will position Punjab among the leading states in northern India with advanced cyber security capabilities. As cyber threats become more sophisticated, the need for a SOC in the state has grown significantly. The centre will monitor, detect, and respond to cyber security incidents in real time, ensuring the protection of critical IT infrastructure.
Following the meeting, Arora conducted a video conference with all deputy commissioners (DCs) to discuss governance reforms and strategies for improving citizen service delivery. He highlighted that Punjab operates 538 Sewa Kendras and offers 438 Government to Citizens (G2C) services efficiently. The state has reduced service delivery pendency from 27% to less than 0.17%.
Improving Citizen Service Delivery
Arora praised the deputy commissioners of Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Pathankot for maintaining low pendency levels in citizen service delivery. He urged all DCs to regularly monitor and review district-level pendency to identify and resolve bottlenecks. Emphasising transparency and accountability, he stressed the importance of providing clear objection remarks on pending applications.
The minister also instructed DCs to identify habitual delayers who return applications without valid reasons or add unnecessary objections. This directive aims to streamline processes and improve efficiency in service delivery across the state.
Punjab's efforts to enhance cyber security and citizen services reflect its commitment to governance reforms. By establishing a SOC and improving service delivery mechanisms, the state aims to protect its digital assets while ensuring efficient public service provision.
