Heightened Security Measures Implemented Around Disputed Mausoleum in Fatehpur Amid Tensions

Security has been heightened around a disputed mausoleum in Fatehpur following vandalism and plans for a devotional event by the Math Mandir Sanrakshan Sangharsh Samiti. Over 300 police personnel are deployed to maintain order amidst rising tensions.

Security measures have been intensified around a contentious mausoleum in Fatehpur. This follows the Math Mandir Sanrakshan Sangharsh Samiti's announcement of a kirtan event at the location. The situation is tense after a mob recently vandalised the site, claiming it as a Hindu temple. Authorities have implemented prohibitory orders, limiting residents' movements without valid reasons.

District Magistrate Ravindra Singh and Superintendent of Police Anoop Singh visited the mausoleum on Saturday. They assessed the security arrangements firsthand. Over 300 police officers, along with two platoons of the Provincial Armed Constabulary and Special Task Force teams, are stationed within a one-kilometre radius. Officials confirmed that drone surveillance is ongoing in the area.

Increased Security Measures

The tensions escalated when the Math Mandir Sanrakshan Sangharsh Samiti sent a letter on August 7. They sought permission to clean and beautify the mausoleum, alleging it was originally a temple. Despite the administration's refusal, a mob breached barricades on Monday. They entered the site, hoisted saffron flags, performed Hindu rituals, and vandalised graves.

The damaged sections of the mausoleum have since been repaired. Security has been bolstered to prevent further incidents. The police have registered three FIRs due to provocative social media messages that have fueled unrest. Authorities remain vigilant to maintain order.

Ongoing Investigations

Officials have identified approximately 140 suspects from video footage related to the vandalism incident. However, no arrests have been made yet. Media access to the site has been restricted since Monday to control information dissemination and ensure safety.

The heightened security and restrictions aim to prevent further escalation of tensions in Fatehpur. Authorities are focused on maintaining peace while investigating those involved in recent disturbances.
