Armed Individual Approaches Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah in Election Campaign Incident

In a startling incident that unfolded in Bhairasandra, Bangalore, a man armed with a gun approached Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during a public campaign event. The individual, later identified by police as Riyaz, climbed onto the vehicle where Siddaramaiah was present, alongside Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy. The event was part of the campaign for Congress Lok Sabha candidate Sowmya Reddy, Ramalinga Reddy's daughter.

Gun Incident Near Karnataka CM

Riyaz, with a gun visibly fastened to his waist, proceeded to garland Ramalinga Reddy, Sowmya Reddy, and others present on the vehicle, all while chanting slogans in support of the Congress party. The presence of the firearm was only noticed by Siddaramaiah and his companions as Riyaz was descending from the vehicle. According to police statements, Riyaz has been permitted to carry a firearm following a life-threatening assault he suffered a few years prior, exempting him from the requirement to surrender his weapon.

The incident quickly became fodder for political discourse when the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took to X, a popular microblogging platform, to criticize the Chief Minister. The BJP's post suggested that the incident was indicative of the type of supporters surrounding Siddaramaiah, labeling them as "hooligans, rowdies, street thugs." The party further commented on the audacity of such individuals who "used to be seen in birthday posters" now openly carrying firearms and garlanding high-profile political figures during rallies. This act was highlighted as particularly brazen given that it occurred amidst the enforcement of the election code of conduct, suggesting an attempt to intimidate voters in the area.

This occurrence has sparked discussions on security protocols during public political events and the implications of individuals with criminal backgrounds participating openly in political campaigns. The incident raises significant concerns about public safety and the enforcement of election conduct rules, especially in the heated atmosphere of political campaigning.
